Tremors from a powerful earthquake were felt across several cities and districts in northern Pakistan on Saturday afternoon, prompting residents to rush out of homes and offices in fear.
So far, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.
According to the Seismological Center, the quake was part of a larger seismic event that impacted various districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of Islamabad.
Strong tremors were reported in Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, Nowshera, Malakand, Mardan, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, and Charsadda, along with surrounding areas. In the northernmost regions, Gilgit and nearby localities also experienced significant shaking.
In Islamabad, residents evacuated buildings as a safety measure after feeling the tremors.
Emergency services and local authorities have been placed on high alert. Assessment teams have been dispatched to the affected areas, while experts have advised the public to stay calm yet vigilant due to ongoing seismic activity in the region.
